The cable that lives in the boot is the one that gets used
We kept two leads with the hatchback. The one with a home in the boot was the one that came out on ordinary days.

A cable is a dull object until it is the reason the car does not leave. The desk owns two leads that will run the hatchback from our wall box. They are electrically the same. They are not the same tool, because only one of them has a place.
Where it actually sat
One lead lived on a hook in the office, which is a sensible place if you remember the office. The other lived in a sleeve in the boot, next to the warning triangle, coiled the same way every time. Over two weeks the boot cable came out on the evenings we had not planned to charge. The office cable came out when someone walked past the hook and felt guilty.
The difference was not length or price. It was whether the object was already on the journey. A tool that requires a detour back into a building is a tool for people who are already organized. Most of our charging happens when we are not.
The habit we are scoring
When we test a charging lead, or a case for one, we are going to ask where it sleeps. If the answer is "in the car, and it still fits with the shopping," that is a point. If the answer is "in a drawer, because the plug is awkward in the boot," that is also a point, and it is the one that will decide whether we recommend it for a daily car.
The best lead on this desk is the one we stopped thinking about. It is in the boot. It is a bit scuffed. It works.
See a mistake? Write the desk. How a piece is tested, and what the desk will not sell, is set out in How we test and Editorial standards.
