One lamp we could change at the desk, and one we could not
The wagon's load-area bulb was a two-minute job. A front lamp on the same car was not a job for us at all.

There is a quiet split in modern cars between lamps a person can replace and lamps that are a unit for a shop. We met both on the wagon in the same month. The load-area bulb pulled out of a socket the way bulbs used to. We matched the old one by its marks, not by a guess, and the well was lit again.
The front lamp was a different object
The front lamp that failed was not a bulb we could buy and fit. The manual, such as the screen offered, sent us to a workshop. We went. The contrast is the story. One failure was an evening. The other was an appointment.
When the desk writes about night equipment we will say which failures the owner can actually repair. A car that is easy to live with in daylight and opaque after a single lamp dies has a gap in its practical design. We will name the gap without pretending we are a workshop.
See a mistake? Write the desk. How a piece is tested, and what the desk will not sell, is set out in How we test and Editorial standards.
