Charging
A charger that wants an account is a different machine
The desk can fill the hatchback from a cable and a switch. A post that asks for a login before it will start is doing another job.

Our wall box has a switch. The cable clicks, the car takes power, and nobody is invited to create a profile. That is the baseline, and it spoils us. It also makes every other kind of post easier to judge.
The extra job
A public post the desk tried this month would not close the circuit until a phone had joined an account. The electricity was the smaller part of the stop. The larger part was a password, a signal, and a screen in the rain. The car was capable the whole time. The post was not interested in the car until the account was.
We are not against paying for power. We are against burying the start of a charge inside a membership. If the desk cannot begin without a login, the review will say so in the first paragraph, because that is the product. The kilowatts are the second sentence.
What still counts as simple
A post with a clear price, a card or a coin, and a button has not asked us to join anything. We will say that too. Simplicity is not nostalgia. It is whether a tired person can leave with more range than they arrived with, without founding a relationship.
