The washer warning arrived while the bottle was still half full
The hatchback asked for fluid. The reservoir did not agree, until we learned where it measures.

A low-washer lamp is a good lamp. It is also a liar if it lights while you can still see fluid. The hatchback's lamp came on, we looked, and the bottle was around half by eye. Topping it up cleared the lamp. The mystery felt like a fault.
The sensor sits where it sits
The pickup is not at the bottom in a way a glance understands. Half a bottle, in the shape of this reservoir, can be empty at the sensor and generous to the eye. Once we knew that, the lamp became useful again: it means the pickup is uncovered, not that the bottle looks empty on a social-media scale.
We will describe reservoir warnings by what they correspond to in the bottle we can see. A lamp that trains the driver to ignore it has failed, even if it is technically early rather than wrong. Early, unexplained, is how warnings become scenery.
