Halden Clip
A simple vent-and-dash phone mount that mostly stays put, and walked once on the rough loop.

The Halden Clip is a phone mount with one job: hold a phone where the driver can see it, and let go when asked. There is no app, no account, and no coil pretending to be the point. That restraint is why it scored as well as it did. The cobblestone loop is why it did not score higher.
The install
The foot sits against the dash and a hook takes a vent blade as a second bite. In the desk hatchback that pairing felt secure within a minute. In the taller wagon the vent blades are thinner, and the foot had less of a flat to push against. It still went on. It did not feel as decided.
The jaw has a spring and two rubber faces. It accepted a phone in a case without a fight. It does not have a hard stop, so a very thick case is a squeeze rather than a fit. Our everyday case was fine. A folio case was not, and we did not count that against it.
Two weeks, then the rough loop
Daily driving was uneventful. The phone stayed in frame, the jaw did not tick, and the release was a thumb on the paddle. On the cobblestone loop the mount walked. Not off the dash, but far enough that the phone had rotated and the lower edge sat against the vent. We reseated it. It did not walk again that day. Once is enough to write down.
Heat did not bother it. A week of sun on the wagon's dash left the rubber a little shinier and no less grippy.
Where it is honest
The card in the box does not promise a wireless charge or a military grade anything. It says the mount holds a phone and comes off a vent. That is the product we tested. The same four checks, with the weights in How we test, give it 8.2. The Halden Clip remains the plain answer if your roads are ordinary and you refuse an account. Best Car Gadget 2026 is a separate citation, and it is not this mount.
